K-STATE CHEERLEADER ASHLEY SMITH IN ONLINE SPIRIT COMPETITION
MANHATTAN -- Ashley Smith hopes fans of the Kansas State University Wildcats will head to their computers for some highly spirited online voting -- for her.
Smith, a junior in marketing, Overland Park, and a K-State cheerleader, is competing in the 2007 Athlon Sideline Spirit Contest, sponsored by JVC. Smith is a contestant in the third round of the four-round competition.
Winners of each round qualify for the final round of the contest and a chance to win their school $1,000 in cash, two JVC hard-drive camcorders, a 42-inch JVC television, a JVC portable Kaboom Box and a photo shoot in Athlon Sports' 2008 College Football Annual.
Smith's competition includes cheerleaders from Stanford, University of Tulsa, University of Georgia, Virginia Tech, University of Illinois and West Virginia University.
Fans can vote online for their favorite cheerleader at:

Smith is one of four K-State cheerleaders named to the National Cheerleaders Association All-America Cheerleading Team this summer for their performance at the cheerleading association's camp in August at K-State.
At the camp, the K-State squad took top honors, wining both the game day and rally routine competitions. The K-State squad also was voted the most spirited. By placing in first place, Smith and the squad will now compete at the 2008 College Cheerleading Nationals in April 2008 in Daytona Beach, Fla. It's the third straight year the K-State squad will participate in the national competition.
Smith, who is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, is a 2005 graduate of Blue Valley Northwest High School.
