K-STATE AT SALINA TO OFFER DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSE IN AIRPORT PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
SALINA -- Kansas State University at Salina will offer a new airport planning and management course through continuing education beginning in spring 2008. The course will be offered online with some field components, including an actual airport inspection.
Kurt Barnhart, head of the aviation department at K-State at Salina, said the course will add to the school's already well-rounded aviation program and provide a new opportunity for students.
"We have been trying to get this course offered for years but did not have an instructor with the expertise needed to teach it," Barnhart said. "It is a very specialized part of aviation with a great deal of career potential."
The course will be taught by Troy Allen, a professor and former airport inspector. Allen, a certified state airport inspector/trainer, spent 13 years working for the aeronautics section of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Although open to anyone, the course will be beneficial to those with an interest in airport management. For more information and to enroll, contact K-State at Salina continuing education at 785-826-2633.
