APPAREL EXPERT WINS INDUSTRY AWARD
MANHATTAN
-- Deborah Meyer-Brosdahl, associate professor in the department
of apparel, textiles and interior design at Kansas State University,
has been selected a 2006 Apparel magazine All-Star Award winner.
The
award recognizes those who make outstanding contributions through
teaching, research or service activities in the textile and apparel
field. Meyer-Brosdahl will receive the award at a ceremony Nov.
8 in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She also will
be featured in the December issue of the magazine.
Meyer-Brosdahl
was the only educator among the 10 national winners selected. She
was initially nominated by Sara Kadolph, professor of textiles and
clothing at Iowa State University, and she chosen to represent the
International Textile and Apparel Association.
"This
is a tremendous honor for both me and the department," Meyer-Brosdahl
said. "I think it underscores the importance of outstanding
education in the apparel and textiles industries, and how crucial
it is to prepare students for their professional lives."
"I
nominated Dr. Meyer-Brosdahl because we have worked together for
so many years, and she is so creative in developing things that
help students learn," Kadolph said. "I have always been
impressed with her commitment to students and how much time she
spends with them. Student learning is her main focus. In fact, when
I read the criteria for the award, no other name came to my mind."
Meyer-Brosdahl's
areas of teaching and research interests include textile and apparel
sustainability, consumer education and consumer behavior. She has
been recognized with awards for teaching excellence and leadership.
She also has received many grants, including three U.S. Department
of Agriculture Challenge grants.
