K-STATE'S
GROW PROGRAM SPONSORING 'SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING JAM WITH THE ARTS'
OCT. 21
MANHATTAN
-- Forty-eight middle school-age girls from across the state of
Kansas will participate in "Science and Engineering Jam with
the Arts" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, on the main
Kansas State University campus.
The
event is sponsored by K-State's GROW, or Girls Researching Our World,
project. GROW is offered through the Women in Engineering and Science
Program and introduces middle-school girls to science, technology,
engineering and mathematical fields.
K-State
faculty and students from biochemistry, electrical and computer
engineering, physics, dance, kinesiology and architecture and staff
from K-State's Marianna Kistler Beach Art Museum will provide hands-on
activities that demonstrate how products and applications from science
and engineering can help the quality of the arts.
Activities
will include "Fun with Food," an introduction to biochemistry
in cooking; "Groove-ology," an opportunity to discover
the science of movement; and "Do You See What I Hear?",
an exploration of "seeing" music through the science of
physics.
For
additional information, contact Susan Arnold Christian, Women in
Engineering and Science outreach program coordinator, at 785-532-6152
or visit the GROW Web site at http://www.k-state.edu/grow
