LAFENE
HEALTH CENTER'S 16TH ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR NOV. 1 AT K-STATE
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's 2006 Lafene Health Fair will be
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the courtyard at the K-State
Student Union. The theme is "Don't Gamble With Your Health
Lafene Has A Deal For You!"
Featured
at the fair will be campus health services available for K-State
students. Each department at Lafene Health Center will provide information
about health issues related to its specialty:
*
The women's clinic will focus on women's health issues.
*
Nurses from Lafene's general clinic will provide information about
preventing winter illnesses such as colds and the flu. Flu vaccines
will be available for K-State faculty, staff and students. The cost
is $19 for faculty and staff, and $14 for students.
*
The asthma clinic will have information about this new service for
patients with asthma.
*
Physical therapy will present information about rehabilitation from
computer overuse injuries.
*Radiology
will provide information about X-rays available at the health center.
*
Lafene's Laboratory will cover lab tests provided for Lafene users.
*
The Lafene pharmacy will focus on prescription and over-the-counter
medication available at the health center.
*
Counseling services will also provide information about its mental
health support services.
"This
is a great opportunity for students to get to know the professionals
who provide health care to them at Lafene," said Carol Kennedy,
Lafene's director of health promotion. "About two-thirds of
K-State students use Lafene services; meeting the staff at the fair
can give students additional insight into the full range of services
available to them."
Prizes
will be given away at the fair and include a football autographed
by Ron Prince, two tickets to the Country Stampede, gift certificates
from local restaurants and K-State T-shirts. Numerous prize donations
provided by area businesses will be given to fair attendees, as
well as free popcorn.
K-State's
Student Health Advisory Committee has been working with the Lafene
staff to coordinate the fair.
"The
health fair is not just about the prizes," said Alison Filla,
senior in public health nutrition, Leawood, and president of the
advisory committee. "The students at K-State should know that
the health services available at Lafene are not only very convenient
and cost effective, but also of the highest quality."
