K-STATE
GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL FAIR OCT. 31
MANHATTAN
-- A new event will give students from across the state a glimpse
of Kansas State University's graduate and professional programs,
and other institutions will get to meet the high-caliber undergraduate
students K-State develops.
The
Graduate and Professional School Fair will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. The event
is free, and no registration is required for students.
The
first-ever fair is a chance for college students in the region to
explore the master's, doctorate and professional programs K-State
has to offer by visiting with representatives from the university's
graduate-level programs in hotel, restaurant, institutional management
and dietetics; counseling and educational psychology; business administration;
and kinesiology, geography and other arts and sciences disciplines.
The
fair also is bringing representatives from schools from across the
region and nation to meet K-State's undergraduate and master's-level
students. K-State students can visit with representatives from other
Kansas Regents institutions like Wichita State, the University of
Kansas, Pittsburg State University and Fort Hays State University,
as well as public universities from Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and
Oklahoma. Private institutions also will be represented, including
Avila University, St. Luke's College, Creighton University and Rockhurst
University. Programs represented include allied health care, nursing,
medicine, law, biological sciences, business, biochemistry and other
graduate school disciplines.
"We're
really pleased with the response for this first year, having almost
50 different programs that are interested in promoting themselves
at K-State," said Kerri Day Keller, director of K-State's career
and employment services. She said recent statistics show that about
20 percent of all K-State undergraduate students go on to graduate
or professional school, and those who continue their education account
for as much as 30 percent of students in K-State's College of Arts
and Sciences.
"That was one of the driving forces for instituting the fair,"
Keller said. "We wanted to find ways to serve the students
in the College of Arts and Sciences in particular who are more likely
to go on to graduate or professional schools."
The fair also will offer visitors information about graduate school
testing. The day before the fair, Monday, Oct. 30, K-State students
can participate in mock interviews for graduate and professional
programs. More information about the fair is available online at
