PROFESSOR RECOGNIZED FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO KINESIOLOGY
MANHATTAN
-- A kinesiology professor at Kansas State University has been
recognized for his significant contributions to the fields of kinesiology
and physical education.
David
Dzewaltowski was inducted as Fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology
and Physical Education at the academy's recent 76th annual meeting.
Dzewaltowski is only the 463rd individual since 1926 to be inducted
into the honorary organization.
To
be inducted, a person must be nominated and approved by members
of the academy based on significant contributions to scholarly literature,
professional literature, leadership activities and other evidence
of leadership in the field of kinesiology or physical education
over a period of 10 years.
"Being
inducted into the select membership of an academy with such a rich
history is truly an honor," Dzewaltowski said. "I am most
proud that all academy Fellows are selected for not only their contributions
as a scientist but also for their demonstrated leadership in the
discipline. I have always strived to lead in making things better
at K-State and beyond."
Dzewaltowski
is director of the Community Health Institute at K-State. His scholarly
work includes theory-based studies of the processes that influence
physical activity across the life span, and the implementation of
evidence-based community health initiatives. His research has been
published in top journals in exercise psychology, behavioral medicine
and public health.
He
also has been the principal investigator on about $4 million of
extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health, U.S.
Department of Agriculture, Kansas Health Foundation, Sunflower Foundation
and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dzewaltowski
was head of the department of kinesiology at K-State from 1995-2002
and became the director of the Community Health Institute in 2002.
He has served on numerous professional panels, editorial and funding
agency review panels and has been involved in community and state
health promotion efforts.
