LECTURE
ON 'OBSERVATIONS FROM AFRICA' PART OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK
AT K-STATE
MANHATTAN
-- Susan Adamchak, an adjunct faculty member at Kansas State
University and a senior consultant with Family Health International
in Durham, N.C., will present the lecture, "Meeting Women's
Reproductive Health Needs in the Age of AIDS: Observations from
Africa," as part of K-State's Vernon Larson International Luncheon-Lecture
Series Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The
lecture will be at
the Ramada Plaza Ballroom from 12:20-1 p.m. and is free and open
to the public. A buffet will be served beginning at 11:45 a.m. The
cost for lunch is $10; reservations should be made with the office
of international programs by Friday, Nov. 10, by calling 785-532-5990.
Adamchak
has more than 20 years of international experience in more than
30 countries. Her work in the past decade has focused on adolescent
reproductive health and HIV/AIDS programs. She is currently conducting
research on integrating family planning and HIV/AIDS treatment services,
and has participated in assessments, evaluations and research of
youth peer education programs in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.
Adamchak
received her doctorate degree in sociology and population studies
from Brown University. She has lived in Zimbabwe and Namibia, and
has worked extensively in Ghana during the past three years.
The
lecture is sponsored by the Friends of International Programs at
K-State and is part of the celebration of International Education
Week, Nov. 13-17. Other events include a presentation by students
and staff who recently traveled to Senegal and Gambia; an artwork
display; a lecture by Fulbright scholar Ela Mukherjee; and a talk
by the director of research and outreach for the Association of
American Geographers. In addition, at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in
Hale Library's Hemisphere Room, Jon Wefald, K-State president, will
present the university's International Educator Award. At the presentation,
Nelson Galle, chair of the Kansas Board of Regents, will speak on
the importance of international education for the university.
