'Poets and prayers': Turtle Island quartet showcases many forms of musical inspiration

MANHATTAN -- Double Grammy-winning quartet Turtle Island, along with acclaimed jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton, will perform a McCain Performance Series concert in McCain Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The concert, "Poets and Prayers," will explore artistic inspiration in all its forms, and will include everything from the traditional hymn "Wade in the Water," to samplings of Coltrane's "A Love Supreme," to the words of the Persian poets Hafiz and Rumi.

Turtle Island is known for its innovative chamber jazz music, and Sutton's career has included multiple Grammy nominations, as well as appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and the Hollywood Bowl.

Ticket cost $12-$55 with applicable taxes and fees. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office, by phone at 785-532-6428, or online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain/.
