WALT DISNEY COMPANY'S FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY TO BE OFFERED FOR FIRST TIME IN MANHATTAN, RILEY COUNTY WITH HELP FROM K-STATE
MANHATTAN -- Families in Riley County can join with families across America Saturday, Nov. 22, for Family Volunteer Day. It's the first time the event is being made available locally.
Family Volunteer Day is a program of the HandsOn Network and sponsored by The Walt Disney Company. It is being organized locally by Kansas State University's Academic Mentoring program and the K-State Volunteer Center of Manhattan.
As a local partner, Academic Mentoring, a K-State co-curricular service learning program, is teaming up with seven community organizations and schools for Family Volunteer Day. The funding for the projects is supported by the K-State Volunteer Center of Manhattan with a "Minnie" Grant from Disney.
Families interested in volunteering can call the K-State Volunteer Center of Manhattan at 785-532-3670.
HandsOn Network, generated by the Points of Light Institute, created the day to highlight the benefits of family volunteering and to provide an opportunity for America' s families to help communities create supportive environments for their children and each other. The day of service is designed to demonstrate the power of families who choose to volunteer together to support the communities in which they live and serve.
