'WINTER EXPRESSIONS' GALA TO BENEFIT K-STATE CANCER RESEARCH
MANHATTAN -- A night out with such stellar local musicians as Linda Uthoff, Reg Pittman, Jennifer and Bob Edwards, and Katharina Janik Bossmann is planned to help benefit Kansas State University's Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research.
"Winter Expressions: A Musical Gala" will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Wareham Opera House, 404 Poyntz Ave. Elegant desserts and champagne will be served, and proceeds will to go the K-State cancer research center.
This black-tie-optional affair is being produced by Janik Bossmann, an opera singer who has performed in Europe and the United States. She and her husband, Stefan Bossmann, an affiliated scientist of the cancer research center, moved to Manhattan three years ago when they joined the K-State chemistry department.
Janik Bossmann, a cancer survivor, decided last spring to do something to give back to those who are working so hard for a cure for cancer. "And what I do best is sing," she said.
"One thing led to another, and eventually, I was producing a whole gala," she said. "This town is full of world-class talent, and I wanted to put on a great show with dazzling performances and delectable treats, something for the body and soul, and in the spirit of giving for cancer research and hope for a cure."
Other performers and accompanists are Stefan Bossmann, Charles Faulk, Drew Horton, Megan Denell Huether and Rob Huether, Allison Karnowski, Griff Letch and Tyler Woods.
Also entertaining guests will be glassblower James Hodgson.
Tickets are $40 per couple, $25 per individual, and $15 for military and students. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Information is available at http://www.k-state.edu/cancer.center/news or by calling the cancer center at 785-532-6705. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible.
K-State's Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research is dedicated to supporting basic cancer research and education, as well as public outreach. Its programs are made possible through private donations.
