K-STATE HUMAN ECOLOGY STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS
MANHATTAN
-- Five students in the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State
University have recently been recognized with notable awards in
their fields.
Gayathri
Pidatala, graduate student in human ecology-apparel, textiles and
interior design, Manhattan, won the Oris Glisson Graduate
Student Fellowship award. The award is given annually to outstanding
graduate students by the International Textile and Apparel Association.
Pidatala received an award of $1,000 and attended the annual International
Textile and Apparel Association meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
Four
students from the college received top awards at the Fashion Group
International of Kansas City Career Day 2006. Students had the opportunity
to participate in competitions for both original garment designs
and for illustration merchandising boards. Participants could compete
under four design categories, including career wear, vacation attire,
costume/historical garments and special occasion pieces.
The
competition was part of the annual Fashion Career Day, which also
included presentations by guest speakers in the industry, a tour
of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and fashion show presentations.
Students
that participated in the competition and their awards include:
Juan
Carlos Garcia, sophomore in apparel and textiles, Herington,
top 15, original garment design; Kolia Souza, senior in apparel
marketing and design, Junction City, third place,
personal shopper board; Mik-Young Whang, graduate student in human
ecology, Manhattan, second place, original garment design;
and Katharine Langer, senior in apparel marketing and design, Olathe,
first place, personal shopper board.
