K-STATE PSYCH'OLOGY STUDENTS PRESENT AT RECENT CONFERENCES

MANHATTAN -- Students in Kansas State University's department of psychology gave presentations at two recent conferences.

Several students presented or co-authored a paper that was presented at the joint biannual meeting of the Association for Psychological Educational Research in Kansas and the Nebraska Psychological Society in Hays Nov. 4. One graduate student presented at the Midwest Academy of Management meeting in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 12-14.

Students presenting or co-authoring a presented paper, all at the joint biannual meeting of the Association for Psychological Educational Research in Kansas and the Nebraska Psychological Society unless otherwise noted, include:

Emily Pientka, junior in psychology, Emporia, co-authored the paper "Manipulating the Sunk Cost Effect by Changing the Deliberation Episode."

From Manhattan: Maura Mills, graduate student in psychology, presented the papers "Flow and Self-Determination in Higher Education" and " Utilizing 360-Degree Ratings in Educational Settings"; Michael Smith, graduate student in psychology, presented the paper "Examining the Shirom-Melamed Vigor Measure in Relation to Academic Motivation"; Andrew Wefald, graduate student in psychology, presented the paper "Organizational Slack, Firm Performance, and the Role of Industry," at the Midwest Academy of Management meeting; and Dianne Whitney, graduate student in psychology, presented the paper "Let's Talk About Stress: Does it Matter Who's Doing the Talking?" and the poster "Changing Perceptions of Stress and Utilization of Coping Methods in an Undergraduate Population."

Christopher Barlett, graduate student in psychology, Overland Park, co-authored the paper "Affect Induction and Risk-Taking: A Theoretical Perspective"; and Christopher Vowels, graduate student in psychology, Riley, presented the papers "Manipulating the Sunk Cost Effect by Changing the Deliberation Episode" and "Affect Induction and Risk-Taking: A Theoretical Perspective."
