K-STATE FALL 2006 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES SET FOR DEC. 8 AND 9: More than 1,350 Kansas State University students are candidates for degrees at the university's fall commencement ceremonies Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9, in Manhattan and Salina.

K-STATE BIOCHEMISTRY PROFESSOR, ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY PROFESSOR RECEIVE THE COMMERCE BANK DISTINGUISHED GRADUATE FACULTY AWARD: Subbaratnam Muthukrishnan, professor of biochemistry, and Philine Wangemann, professor of anatomy and physiology, will be recognized at the K-State Graduate School commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, in Bramlage Coliseum.

CRISTIAN MOROSAN RECEIVES STOWE ENDOWED FACULTY DEVELOPMENT AWARD FROM K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY: Cristian Morosan is the recipient of the 2006 Dean Barbara S. Stowe Endowed Faculty Development Fund Award from Kansas State University's College of Human Ecology.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY SELECTS STUDENT FROM ADMIRE AS RECIPIENT OF R. JEAN SEGO AWARD, COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER: Sarah Kuhn, a senior in communication sciences and disorders, Admire, has received the R. Jean Sego Commencement Award from the Kansas State University College of Human Ecology.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY NAMES EIGHT OUTSTANDING SENIORS: Kansas State University's College of Human Ecology is recognizing eight students as outstanding seniors.

LONG-TIME DIRECTOR OF K-STATE'S MCCAIN AUDITORIUM TO RETIRE: Richard Martin, long-time organizer of the McCain Performance Series, will be recognized Monday, Dec. 4, at the K-State Alumni Center with a reception in his honor. The event is open to the public.

NINE STUDENTS JOIN K-STATE'S HUMAN ECOLOGY HONORS PROGRAM: Nine students have recently joined the College of Human Ecology Honors Program at Kansas State University. Current students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the program.

FIVE K-STATE HUMAN ECOLOGY STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS: Five students in the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University have recently been recognized with notable awards in their fields.

K-STATE'S 12TH MARSHALL WINNER -- K-STATE'S LISA KITTEN BRINGS HOME $70,000 MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP: Kansas State University senior Lisa Kitten, Plains, took a trip to Chicago Nov. 8 to interview for the Marshall Scholarship. It was a productive visit. She is one of about 40 students awarded a 2007 Marshall Scholarship.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION PRESENTING LONGTIME KANSAS EDUCATION COMMISSIONER ANDY TOMPKINS WITH FIRST EVER YUNK AWARD: Kansas State University's College of Education is presenting Andy Tompkins, former longtime Kansas commissioner of education, with the inaugural Dan and Cheryl Yunk Excellence in Educational Administration Award.

PROJECT GOAL: PROTECT LIVES AND DEFEAT THE BULLET -- K-STATE ENGINEER FOCUSES ON THE MECHANICS OF BETTER BULLET PROOFING: Body armor with greater ballistics resistance is the aim of the research being carried out by Youqi Wang, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Kansas State University, with support from two U.S. Department of Defense agencies.

K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART INVITING FAMILIES TO HOLIDAY ART WORKSHOP: The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University is livening up the holiday season with its annual Holiday Family Art Workshop from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3.

NEW FACULTY JOIN K-STATE FOR 2006-2007 SCHOOL YEAR: More than 90 new faculty and visiting faculty have joined Kansas State University for the 2006-2007 academic year. Although some of the faculty members joined K-State earlier this year, most started their new positions at the beginning of the 2006 fall semester.

FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR PROGRAM TAKES K-STATE PROFESSOR TO THE PHILIPPINES TO LECTURE ON AND STUDY WAYS TO MODERNIZE COUNTRY'S AGRICULTURE: As a 2006-2007 Fulbright Scholar, Kansas State University's Mark Schrock will use his expertise in alternative and renewable fuels and machinery systems management to help the people of the Philippines find ways to modernize their agricultural industry.

NELLIS ELECTED TO NASULGC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: K-State Provost M. Duane Nellis began his term on the Executive Committee at the recently-concluded NASULGC national meeting Nov. 12-14 in Houston.

K-STATE MEN'S GLEE CLUB TO PRESENT HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE: The Kansas State University Men's Glee Club will give a holiday performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in K-State's All Faiths Chapel.

K-STATE'S FIRST ASSOCIATE PROVOST OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS, WILLIAM RICHTER, HONORED WITH THE UNIVERSITY'S INTERNATIONAL EDUCATOR AWARD: William Richter, professor of political science at Kansas State University, has received K-State's International Educator Award as a part of the university's celebration of International Education Week, Nov. 13-17.

K-STATE'S MULTICULTURAL STUDENT HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS: Kansas State University's Multicultural Student Honor Society gained new members recently. The society recognizes the academic achievements of multicultural students at K-State.

STEPPING OUT OF COMFORT ZONE ALLOWS K-STATE MULTICULTURAL STUDENT TO EMBRACE, DEVELOP BETTER APPRECIATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE: A record number of students of color, 1,699 to be exact, have enrolled at Kansas State University this fall. That's up from 1,652 a year ago. The increase was led by students who identified themselves as Hispanic or Mexican-American.

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION GRANT TO ENHANCE RECRUITMENT, ATTRACT STUDENTS TO K-STATE AT SALINA'S ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAMS: The few. The proud. The ELITE. That's the type of student Kansas State University at Salina will seek to attract to its engineering technology programs with a new five-year, $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

K-STATE TO STAGE 'BREAKING COLORING BOUNDARIES' NOV. 16: Students and instructors of Spanish at Kansas State University hope to break cultural boundaries through an upcoming performance. The play will be staged at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in the K-State Student Union Little Theatre. Admission is free.

ADULTS INVITED TO PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP NOV. 30 AT K-STATE'S MARIANNA KISTLER BEACH MUSEUM: The museum is having a printmaking workshop for adults from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the museum. Participants will first learn the process of making linoleum block prints and then take part in printmaking projects that they may take home and use.

K-STATE PROFESSOR'S EXHIBIT OF WORK BY ITALIAN ARCHITECT ON DISPLAY AT SEATON GALLERY UNTIL DEC. 1: An exhibit exploring the architecture of Italy's public buildings in the first half of the 20th century is going on display at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design.

DOW CHEMICAL COMPANY AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO K-STATE ENGINEERING STUDENTS: The Dow Chemical Company has awarded seven Kansas State University engineering students scholarships totaling $23,000. Two students received Outstanding Junior Awards; five others were named Foundation Scholars.

K-STATE MARCHING BAND BRINGING STADIUM TUNES INDOORS FOR ANNUAL CONCERT FEATURING HALFTIME MUSIC FROM FOOTBALL SEASON: The band will perform music from the 2006 football season during a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Ahearn Field House. The K-State Classy Cats, color guard and featured twirler also will perform. The marching band will perform while seated but still will play pieces that include spirited school songs and cheers.

K-STATE PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS AUTHOR PAPER, PRESENT WORK AT PAVLOVIAN SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING: A paper, "Effects of Rearing Environment on Pavlovian Conditioned Hyperactivity" co-authored by several psychology students from Kansas State University was presented at the recent Pavlovian Society annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pa.

K-STATE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDENT FROM MANHATTAN RECEIVES GOLF COURSE SCHOLARSHIP: Daryn Soldan, graduate student in landscape architecture, is receiving a $1,000 Golf Course Builders Association of America scholarship for 2006-2007.

K-STATE AGRONOMY PROFESSOR NAMED TO USDA AIR QUALITY TASK FORCE: Chuck Rice, professor of agronomy at Kansas State University, has been selected by Mike Johanns, U.S. agriculture secretary, to serve as a member of the Agricultural Air Quality Task Force.
