LORNE RENDER, DIRECTOR OF K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO MUSEUM COMMUNITIES IN KANSAS AND THE REGION

MANHATTAN -- Lorne Render, director of the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University, recently was awarded the Presidential Award for Outstanding Service to both regional and Kansas museum communities.

Render was honored Nov. 2 at the Kansas Museums Association annual conference in Hays, where he was the keynote speaker for the event.

"I was surprised and very pleased," Render said. "It is such a great honor to be recognized by an organization that is doing such great work for the arts in the state of Kansas."

The Kansas Museums Association is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to increasing and promoting interest in Kansas museums. Katie Herrick, president of the association, presented Render with a framed certificate at the conclusion of his keynote address, "A Discussion on Museums: Fortress and Forum."

Render has been the director of K-State's Beach Museum of Art since 1999. He has a bachelor's and a master's degree in art history from the University of Oregon, a diploma from the Seminar for Historical Administrators, Williamsburg, Va., and a diploma from the Museum Management Institute, The Getty Leadership Institute. In 2003, Render was awarded an Excellence in Peer Review Service Award by the American Association of Museums.

The Beach Museum of Art, 14th Street and Anderson Avenue, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free, and complimentary visitor parking is available adjacent to the facility. More information about the museum is available by calling 785-532-7718 or at http://www.k-state.edu/bma
