OFFERING HAZWOPER TRAINING PROGRAMS
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University is offering on-campus Hazardous Waste
Operations and Emergency Response, or HAZWOPER, training. Options
include a 40-hour training course and an eight-hour refresher course.
The
40-hour training course will be Jan. 2-5, 2007, and provides certification
for the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard 29 CFR
1910.120. The training includes an overview of federal regulations,
toxicology, hazard communication, site management, air monitoring,
site characterization, operating procedures, safety, spill cleanup
and more. The class also will write and review health and safety
plans, emergency response plans and incident command procedures.
The training will consist of lectures, classroom exercises and actual
field experience.
The
eight-hour refresher course will be Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, and is
designed for any individual who has previously completed the 40-hour
or 24-hour HAZWOPER training. This can include faculty and students
working with hazardous substances in the laboratory and on field
sites, as well as first responders or industry hazardous material
handlers. The planned course will re-qualify participants to enter
hazardous waste sites in the field and to work appropriately with
hazardous materials in the laboratory.
The
cost of the 40-hour HAZWOPER training course is $475, while the
8-hour refresher course is $125. The registration fees include all
course materials, handouts and a certificate verifying completion
of the training course. The 40-hour training course also offers
three hours of optional undergraduate credit.
