K-STATE'S
COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY NAMES EIGHT OUTSTANDING SENIORS
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's College of Human Ecology is recognizing
eight students as outstanding seniors.
Students
are chosen for academic achievement; leadership, participation and
service; and professional potential. The students will be recognized
at the college's fall graduation honors and student awards presentation,
4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Hoffman Lounge in Justin Hall. The
College of Human Ecology commencement ceremony is at 9 a.m. Saturday,
Dec. 9, in McCain Auditorium.
Outstanding
seniors for fall 2006 include:
Sarah
Pierron, senior in apparel and textiles-apparel design, Easton.
Pierron placed first in the Fashion Group International of Kansas
City Store Concept Board competition, served as an undergraduate
teaching assistant for the Aesthetics of Apparel and Textiles class
and served an internship with Fossil in Dallas. She has received
the Human Ecology Telefund Scholarship, the Rose Garzio Award for
Outstanding Achievement in Apparel Marketing and Design, the Earnest
L. and Hettie C. Lahr Scholarship and was named to the dean's list.
Pierron is a 2002 graduate of Pleasant Ridge High School and is
the daughter of Kenneth and Vicki Pierron, Easton.
Audrea
Westfall, senior in communication sciences and disorders, Great
Bend. Westfall has been a member of the Kansas Student Speech-Language
and Hearing Association and the Family Studies and Human Services
Interest Group. She also has been an anatomy lab instructor. She
has received the Dean's Fund for Excellence scholarship, the Catherine
Hardin Tendick Scholarship and the Evan Burtner Memorial Scholarship.
She has been in the top 10 percent of her class and has been on
the university's honors list. Westfall is a 2002 graduate of St.
John High School. She is the daughter of Alan Westfall, Great Bend,
and Tina Delzeit, Rexford.
Crystal
Conner, senior in nutritional sciences, Manhattan. Conner has been
a peer tutor for the Structure and Function of Human Body class.
She also is a member of the college's honors program; Theta chapter
of the human ecology honor society, Kappa Omicron Nu; and Golden
Key International Honor Society. She has been the recipient of the
K-State Achievement Scholarship, the Anna L. Steckelberg Memorial
Scholarship in Dietetics/Nutrition and the Grace Dickman King Memorial
Scholarship. Conner is a 2002 graduate of Eudora High School. She
is the daughter of Ron and Charlene Conner, Omaha, Neb.
Courtney
Winslow, senior in family life and community services, Manhattan.
Winslow has been on the dean's list and a member of Trauma Research,
Education and Consultation at K-State, Psi Chi national honor society,
Phi Kappa Phi honor society, Golden Key International Honor Society
and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is a 2002 graduate
of Manhattan High School and is the daughter of Chip Winslow and
Karen Winslow, both of Manhattan.
Katherine
Champion, senior in life span human development, Overland Park.
Champion has been involved in the college's annual fundraiser, community
service projects and Entrepreneurs Club. She also played a large
part in establishing a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, an international
women's friendship network, in Manhattan. Champion is a 2002 graduate
of Shawnee Mission South High School and is the daughter of Charles
and Patricia Champion, Overland Park.
Kelly
Skretta, senior in public health nutrition and dietetics, Overland
Park. Skretta has studied Spanish at the Costa Rica Language Academy
in San Jose, Costa Rica, while staying with a host family. She has
been a member of the American Dietetic Association, Student Dietetic
Association, Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity, K-State Marching
and Symphony bands, Golden Key International Honor Society, Phi
Upsilon Omicron honor society and Kappa Omicron Nu, the human ecology
honor society. She has been named a K-State Outstanding Public Speaker,
K-State Millennium Scholar and has been on the K-State honors list
and National Dean's List. Skretta is a 2001 graduate of Decorah
High School, Decorah, Iowa. She is the daughter of Mike Blevins,
also of Decorah, and Katie Blevins, Tigard, Ore.
Erin
Hesse, senior in apparel and textiles-apparel marketing, Wichita.
Hesse worked an internship with an independent apparel retailer,
volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader and is a member of Alpha
Chi Omega sorority. She is a 2003 graduate of Andover High School
and is the daughter of Phil and Jane Hesse, Wichita.
Nicole
Hardin, senior in early childhood education, Crestview, Fla. Hardin
has been a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and a professional
member in the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
She received a Human Ecology Telefund Scholarship, the Eisenhower
Tuition Waiver, the Memorial Scholarship and the Hap Arnold Grant.
Hardin is a graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School, Fort Walton
Beach, Fla. She is the daughter of Booker T. Benjamin, Brandon,
Fla., and Irene Sumter, Fort Walton Beach.
