COMMENCEMENT
K-STATE FALL 2006 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES SET FOR DEC. 8 AND 9
MANHATTAN
-- More than 1,350 Kansas State University students are candidates
for degrees at the university's fall commencement ceremonies Friday,
Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9, in Manhattan and Salina.
K-State
will hand out more than 1,150 bachelor's degrees, nearly 200 master's
degrees, about 50 doctoral degrees and about 30 associate degrees.
Nearly 50 students will receive multiple degrees. More than 100
students earned degrees through K-State distance education programs.
Ceremonies
include:

K-State Graduate School, 1 p.m. Dec. 8, Bramlage Coliseum.
* K-State at Salina, 7 p.m. Dec. 8, Kansas Highway Patrol Headquarters,
Troop J, 2025 E. Iron Ave., Salina.
* College of Arts and Sciences, 9 a.m. Dec. 9, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Human Ecology, 9 a.m. Dec. 9, McCain Auditorium.
* College of Education, 10:30 a.m. Dec. 9, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Business Administration, noon Dec. 9, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Agriculture, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 9, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Engineering, 3 p.m. Dec. 9, Bramlage Coliseum.

A
reception for distance education graduates will be 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Dec. 8 in the Flint Hills Room at the Union. The reception also
will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the creation of K-State's
Division of Continuing Education. For distance education students
unable to attend their on-campus ceremony, a virtual commencement
ceremony is available at http://www.dce.k-state.edu/commencement
Speakers
for the Dec. 8 ceremonies include Pete Souza, an international photojournalist
and former White House photographer for President Reagan, for the
Graduate School, and Col. George Boyd of the Civil Air Patrol for
K-State at Salina.
Speakers
for ceremonies Dec. 9 include Andy Tompkins, Kansas education commissioner
from 1996-2005, for the College of Education. Tompkins also will
receive the first Dan and Cheryl Yunk Excellence in Educational
Administration Award at the ceremony. Also speaking will be Michael
Boland, professor of agricultural economics, for the College of
Agriculture; Yasmin Patell, assistant teaching scholar of chemistry,
for the College of Arts and Sciences; M. Duane Nellis, provost,
for the College of Business Administration; Richard Gallagher, interim
dean, for the College of Engineering; and Virginia Moxley, interim
dean, for the College of Human Ecology.
Several
K-State faculty members will be recognized at the Graduate School
ceremony for their outstanding achievements. The honorees include
three professors who were awarded K-State's highest rank of university
distinguished professor earlier this year: John Blair, professor
of biology; Daniel Marcus, professor of anatomy and physiology;
and Richard Marston, professor and head of the department of geography.
The ceremony also will include the presentation of the Commerce
Bank Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award to Subbaratnam Muthukrishnan,
professor of biochemistry, and Philine Wangemann, professor of anatomy
and physiology.
