K-STATE
ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT TO HAVE FIRST JOE TIAO LECTURE ON ECONOMIC
POLICY
MANHATTAN
-- The department of economics at Kansas State University will present
the first Joe Tiao Lecture on Economic Policy at 1 p.m. Thursday,
Nov. 30, in the Cottonwood Room of the K-State Student Union.
Each
year, the Tiao Lecture Series will feature two economists of national
and international stature who will speak on contemporary economic
issues. For the inaugural event, Robert Crandall will be the featured
lecturer. Crandall will present "The Rise and Fall of Government
Regulation."
Crandall
is a senior scholar at the Brookings Institution, a private organization
devoted to analyzing public policy issues at the national level,
and he has done work regarding government regulations. He has written
books on subjects such as environment economics, the telecommunications
industry and regulation of access to the Internet. He also has published
articles on regulatory and antitrust issues, and has served as a
consultant to the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Crandall has consulted for more than 20 companies in the telecommunications,
cable TV, broadcasting and newspaper publishing industries.
Crandall
received his bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati
in 1962, and his doctoral degree from Northwestern University in
1968. He has served as an assistant and associate professor at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and as director of the Council
on Wage and Price Stability. He has authored 15 books and more than
100 journal articles.
