K-STATE'S
ASSOCIATED GENERAL CONTRACTORS STUDENT CHAPTER RECEIVES FIRST PLACE
AWARD
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's Associated General Contractors
student chapter has been named the 2005-2006 first-place award winner
in the Outstanding Student Chapter Competition by the Associated
General Contractors of America.
The
chapter has received first-, second- or third-place awards each
year for the past 17 years, more than any other school in the nation.
According
to the association, "Not only are the students of Kansas State
committed to helping others through their construction abilities,
but also through continuing to learn and keep up with current trends.
And, perhaps most important, is their willingness to pass on their
knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generation."
The
association also praised the K-State student chapter for its commitment
to building, adding to and repairing structures that house service
organizations.
The
chapter was granted its charter in 1967. Volunteer activities are
aimed at the professional development of the chapter members and
designed to instill in members the standards of integrity and responsibility
through construction and other activities and projects of benefit
to the community.
The
2005-2006 student officers, all construction science and management
majors, included:
Jason
Snider, May 2006 bachelor's graduate, Andover, vice president;
Bill Linin, senior, Goodland, treasurer; Brett Allen, May
2006 bachelor's graduate, Hutchinson, president; Cody Showalter,
May 2006 bachelor's graduate, Ottawa, director of public
relations; Matt Schafer, junior, Perry, director of community
projects; and Peter Kelley, August 2006 bachelor's graduate, Shawnee,
secretary.
Faculty
advisers are Tom Logan, assistant professor of architectural engineering
and construction science, and Marilyn Calvin, instructor of architectural
engineering and construction science.
