Big 12 provosts to visit Kansas State University

Friday, May 3, 2013

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University will host provosts from Big 12 universities starting Sunday, May 5.

Provosts from member schools will visit Kansas State University for the first time since a conference reorganization added Texas Christian University and West Virginia University. Big 12 provosts meet at a member institution twice annually, once in the spring and once in the fall, to discuss key issues in higher education and common areas of interest.

"We are excited to host provosts from the Big 12," said April Mason, K-State's provost and senior vice president. "As the academic leaders of our institutions, we have the chance to learn from one another, explore challenging issues facing higher education and work together to create partnerships across campuses."

The provosts will visit the Konza Prairie Biological Station, a tallgrass prairie ecological research site, and go on a guided tour of the prairie with faculty from the Division of Biology. A dinner and reception with Kansas State University leaders will be held later that day at the Flint Hills Discovery Center.

On Monday, provosts will tour the Grain Science and Industry Complex, home of the International Grains Program that educates foreign business leaders and government officials about U.S. grains and oilseeds.

The meetings provide an opportunity for host universities to showcase their campus and for visiting chief academic officers to learn firsthand about the hosting institution.

After the formal meetings conclude, provosts can tour campus facilities such as the Biosecurity Research Institute and Beach Museum of Art.

Big 12 schools include Baylor University, Iowa State University, University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Texas, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University and West Virginia University.
