K-STATE STUDENTS EARN HONORS FOR FURNITURE DESIGN IN REGIONAL COMPETITION

MANHATTAN -- Seven students majoring in interior architecture and product design at Kansas State University recently placed in a competition sponsored by Kansas City Architects, Designers, Dealers and Representatives.

This year's competition had 38 entries, all of which were made in furniture design and construction studio classes at K-State in the 2008-2009 school year.

K-State interior architecture and product design students earning honors in the competition included:

Sierra Withers, Erie, fourth-year student, second place in the small furniture category; Derek Case, May 2009 master's graduate, McPherson, second place in the large furniture category; Alexandra Miller, fourth-year student, Overland Park, first place in the small furniture category; Matthew Johnson, fifth-year student, Shawnee, fourth place in the large furniture category.

From out of state: Kaitlin Holle, Lebanon, Ill., fourth-year student, third place in the small furniture category; Meghan Wilson, fifth-year student, Swansea, Ill., third place in the large furniture category; and Abby Mann, May 2009 master's graduate, Ellisville, Mo., first place in the large furniture category.

The Kansas City Architects, Designers, Dealers and Representatives is a furniture and furnishings interest group in the metropolitan Kansas City area that offers an annual competition for K-State students.
