K-STATE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT FROM ANDOVER HELPS K-STATE COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER RENOVATE ITS SOLAR ADDITION
MANHATTAN -- A student from Andover has helped a learning center associated with Kansas State University renovate its solar facility to serve as a regional demonstration of passive and active and solar technologies.
The UFM Community Learning Center undertook the renovation with a grant from the Caroline F. Peine Foundation. UFM is a nonprofit campus and community education program serving K-State, the Manhattan area and communities across Kansas.
K-Staters from across the campus helped in developing the new design for the facility, which was built in 1980. They included Brad Lutz, a senior in electrical engineering. Lutz is a 2003 graduate of Andover Central High School.
Many activities associated with solar and wind energy, as well as energy conservation and recycling, are planned to accompany the building renovation.
