EXHIBITION TOUR, MAKING PERSONAL JOURNALS PART OF LADIES NIGHT JUNE 12 AT K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART
MANHATTAN -- Participants in the upcoming ladies night at Kansas State University's Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art will view illustrated letters by noted artists before unleashing their own creativity while making personal journals.
The event will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the museum on the K-State campus.
The evening will include a tour of "More Than Words: Illustrated Letters from the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art." Kathrine Schlageck, senior educator at the Beach Museum, will lead visitors through the exhibition of 58 hand-illustrated letters from such artists as Dale Chihuly, Frida Kahlo, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol and Andrew Wyeth.
In addition to the tour, participants will create their own journals with the guidance of Marsha Jensen, a freelance graphic artist.
"We will be creating personalized, altered journals using a variety of paper arts techniques. They'll be taking store-bought journals and embellishing them, Jensen said. "We want to encourage creativity. It's their chance to create a journal for their thoughts and dreams."
Admission is $10 per person and includes the journal. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 785-532-7718. Refreshments will be served.
The Beach Museum of Art is on the southeast corner of the K-State campus at 14th Street and Anderson Avenue. Admission is free, and free visitor parking is available next to the building. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays.
