K-STATE SOIL JUDGING TEAM TAKES NATIONAL HONORS
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Soil Judging Team won second place at the 2007 National Soil Judging Contest in Logan, Utah.
Teams from 22 universities competed in the national contest, which was in mid-April. Two K-State team members placed in the top 10 in individual honors out of 84 contestants.
Members and student coaches of the K-State Soil Judging Team and their individual honors, if received, include:
Paul Hartley, junior in agronomy, Emporia, third in individual honors; Lindsey Voet, senior in agronomy, Home; Kelsey McGie, freshman in milling science and management, Iola; DeAnn Presley, graduate student in agronomy, Junction City, student coach; Scott Dooley, senior in agronomy, Jewell, 48th place; Ryan Cyr, junior in agronomy, Miltonvale; Andrew McGowan, sophomore in agronomy, Prairie Village; Leah Ferdinand, junior in agronomy, Reading, eighth in individual honors; Miranda Brown, senior in agronomy, Republic; Adam Heitman, junior in agronomy, Webber, 18th place; and Ryan Flickner, senior in general agriculture and a December 2006 graduate in agronomy, Wichita, student coach.
The team's faculty coach is Mickey Ransom, professor of agronomy.
