SCIENCE LIBRARIAN TO RECEIVE K-STATE'S HOBROCK AWARD
MANHATTAN -- Elizabeth Turtle, associate professor at Kansas State University Libraries, is to receive the third annual Brice G. Hobrock Distinguished Library Faculty Award.
The honor will be presented Wednesday, May 16, at the annual luncheon meeting of the Friends of the K-State Libraries. Turtle will receive a personal plaque, a listing on a permanent plaque in Hale Library, and a $1,000 gift from the Friends of the K-State Libraries.
Turtle, a science librarian, works with the departments of chemistry, biochemistry and chemical engineering. She is the university libraries' liaison to statewide and national consortia, and she chairs the Regents Libraries Database Consortium. She also helps develop educational and advocacy programs on such issues as open access, alternative publishing models, author's rights and public access to federally funded research.
Turtle is a member of the American Libraries Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries.
Before coming to K-State in 1998, Turtle was corporate librarian for DPRA Inc., an environmental consulting firm with offices in the United States and Canada. Turtle received her bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas and her master's in library science from Emporia State University.
The Hobrock Award was established by the Friends of the K-State Libraries to honor Dean Brice Hobrock at his retirement in June 2004. The award recognizes outstanding librarianship and superior accomplishments among library faculty. Diana Farmer, associate professor at Hale Library, was chair of this year's award committee.
