K-STATE ACCOUNTING PROFESSOR DAN DEINES RECEIVING DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION AWARD
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Dan Deines is earning recognition for excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum development from a world-renown accounting organization that is the largest in the United States.
Deines, the Ralph Crouch KPMG Professor of Accounting at K-State's College of Business Administration, will receive the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award at the association's spring council meeting Sunday, May 20, in Washington, D.C.
The annual award offers professional recognition and promotes role models in academe. It recognizes full-time college accounting educators who exemplify the philosophy of the certified public accountant vision and are involved in the profession at the national level. It also honors excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum development.
Deines is actively involved with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' accounting careers subcommittee and was named a "CPA Pathfinder" by the institute in 1999. The first academic to serve as president of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, he also has received the society's Outstanding Educator Award. Deines is a recipient of the College of Business Administration's Outstanding Teaching and Advising awards and he is a member of the American Accounting Association.
Deines has authored or co-authored several journal articles and is the co-author of the textbook "Introduction to Accounting: An Integrated Approach." He has made numerous presentations at professional and academic meetings and has lectured extensively on curriculum and recruitment topics.
Deines earned his bachelor's degree in history in 1970 from Fort Hays State University. In 1974, he completed a master's degree in business with an emphasis in accounting at Emporia State University. He went on to complete his doctorate in financial accounting at the University of Nebraska in 1985.
