K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AWARDS FACULTY FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING, ADVISING
MANHATTAN -- The College of Business Administration at Kansas State University is presenting awards to two faculty members at the college's commencement ceremony Saturday, May 12.
Jo Lyle, instructor in accounting, will receive the Kansas State Bank Outstanding Advising Award. Brian Niehoff, professor and head of the department of management, will receive the Ralph Reitz Outstanding Teaching Award.
The college's awards and recognition committee selected Lyle for the Kansas State Bank Outstanding Advising Award because of the personal interest she gives students as co-advisor of K-State's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an organization for students in accounting.
"She encourages her students to become engaged in student organizations with the intent of developing skills they will use throughout their careers," said Dan Deines, professor of accounting and chair of the awards and recognition committee. "Students appreciate the professional and personal interaction they receive from Ms. Lyle. She is an excellent and committed educator who consistently demonstrates how much she cares for her students."
Lyle teaches governmental, nonprofit and financial accounting and is an Ernst and Young Teaching Fellow. She earned a master's degree from K-State.
The committee selected Niehoff for the Ralph Reitz Outstanding Teaching Award because he challenges himself to be a better teacher in the same way he challenges his students.
"Dr. Niehoff demonstrates a real concern for students and strives to develop mentoring relationships with them," Deines said. "The level of excellence Dr. Niehoff sets in the classroom is especially impressive when one considers the demands of his administrative responsibilities as department head."
Niehoff teaches organizational behavior, entrepreneurship and international management. His research interests include workplace justice, organizational citizenship behavior and effects of immigration on human resource management practices. Niehoff is the Cargill Faculty Fellow and director of the Cargill Ethics Speaker Series. He earned a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College (Indiana) and a master's and doctorate from Indiana University.
