K-STATE'S MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO FEATURE AWARD-WINNING DOUBLE BASSIST

MANHATTAN -- Daxun Zhang, an award-winning double bassist, will showcase his talent at Kansas State University's All Faiths Chapel.

His performance, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, is part of the McCain Performance Series. Tickets are $10-$20 and may be purchased by calling the McCain box office at 785-532-6428 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Tickets also my be purchased online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain

As the first double bass player to win the Young Concert Artists Auditions in 2003, Zhang was awarded the Claire Tow Prize, which sponsored his New York debut in the Young Concert Artists Series. He also was awarded the Washington Performing Arts Society Prize, which sponsored his Washington, D.C., debut at the Kennedy Center. He also has won the La Jolla Music Society Prize, the Orchestra New England Soloist Prize and the Fergus Prize.

Zhang has appeared as soloist with the Pacific Symphony in Orange County, Calif.; Orchestra New England; and the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle in North Carolina. He has given recitals at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in Florida, the University of Georgia, Western Michigan University, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society and as part of the Artist Series in Tallahassee, Fla. He also has performed at the La Jolla Music Society Summerfest and as part of Cincinnati's Linton Chamber Music Series.

The performance is sponsored by the K-State fine arts fee, the Friends of McCain and Capitol Federal Savings.
