K-STATE WORKSHOPS CAN HELP HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SUCCEED WITH ENTRANCE EXAM AND ON CAMPUS

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University has arranged workshops March 28-29 to help high school students conquer the challenges of college life and the ACT entrance exam.

The College Success seminar will take place Friday, March 28, in the K-State Student Union. Designed for high school sophomores and juniors, the seminar offers sessions on financial assistance, housing options, athletics and campus life. Information also is available about K-State's international programs and marching band.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. in the Union; a $20 per-person fee includes lunch at 12:15 p.m. In the afternoon students can tour residence halls and the Peters Recreation Complex. Parents can attend an information session tailored to their concerns. For more information or to register online, go to:

The ACT workshop will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in 63 Seaton Hall, across from the Union. Designed for first-time test-takers, the workshop will answer questions about how to prepare for the test, test-taking strategies, how to improve scores and what K-State requires for admission.

Participants, who should bring a calculator, also will take a practice test. They'll get the instructions exactly as they will be posed in the real exam and work under the test's time limits. Participants also will learn when it is best to go on to the next question. Experts from K-State's Academic Assistance Center also will be on hand to teach relaxation techniques.

Sessions on financial assistant and scholarship programs will be offered for parents at the workshop. Campus tours also will be available.

The workshop fee of $25 for students includes all materials and lunch. The $15 fee for parents also includes lunch. High school counselors may attend at no charge. For more information or to register online, go to http://www.consider.k-state.edu/act/

More information for students and parents also available by calling 800-432-8270 or 785-532-6250 or by sending e-mail to k-state@k-state.edu.
