K-STATE INVITES HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORES TO TASTE CAMPUS LIFE APRIL 18-19
MANHATTAN -- High school sophomores will have a chance to see what Wildcat life is all about at Kansas State University's For Sophomores Only events on Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19.
Offered in conjunction with K-State's All-University Open House, For Sophomores Only gives high school students and their families an in-depth look at the K-State campus. Sophomores will get a chance to meet other students, participate in a "virtual college" session, ask questions about K-State and participate in social events.
Meanwhile, their parents will have the chance to learn about admissions, financial assistance and scholarships.
"We've found that sophomores enjoy discovering for themselves the differences between high school and college," said Andrea Bryant Gladin, associate director of alumni programs at the K-State Alumni Association. "For Sophomores Only helps them get some concrete ideas about what college will really be like."
Activities begin at 7 p.m. April 18 and continue through 11 a.m. April 19. Afterward, families are encouraged to attend the free All-University Open House, featuring academic and college life information, entertainment, games and food. Saturday evening, the spring football scrimmage takes place at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Participation in For Sophomores Only costs $18 for both Friday and Saturday activities and includes a Friday night snack, Saturday morning breakfast, a T-shirt and all materials and activities. The cost for Saturday programs only, including breakfast, T-shirt and materials and activities, is $15. To register, call 800-600-2586. Registration and payment are due Wednesday, April 9.
For Sophomores Only is put on by members of K-State's Student Alumni Board, a group of 35 students selected to represent K-State to high school students, their parents and alumni. "These students know all about the university and its many opportunities," Gladin said. "They're eager to share that knowledge and their own experiences as Wildcats."
K-State has reserved blocks of hotel rooms in Manhattan for parents and students attending For Sophomores Only. Rooms are being held for Friday and Saturday nights at the Clarion Hotel (785-539-5311; $85 per night) and the Holiday Inn (785-539-7531; $99 per night). Reserve by Tuesday, April 1. Space is limited.
