MANHATTAN MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD AT K-STATE APRIL 19, FOR KIDS IN GRADES 5-12

MANHATTAN -- The 12th annual Manhattan Mathematic Olympiad will be Saturday, April 19, at Kansas State University.

The challenging mathematical competition, for kids in grades 5-12, is part of K-State's All-University Open House. The olympiad will be 9 a.m. to noon, and the solution session and awarding of prizes will be 5-8 p.m., both in 101 Cardwell Hall. The event is free and no registration is required.

Modeled after the U.S. Mathematical Olympiad, International Mathematical Olympiad and similar competitions in Europe, the Manhattan Mathematical Olympiad is a chance for students to expand their mathematical skills.

Competition will be offered in three age levels: fifth and sixth grades; seventh and eighth grades; and ninth through 12th grades. Participants should bring their own paper and pencils.

More information on the Olympiad is available from Yan Soibelman, K-State professor of mathematics and chair of the Manhattan Mathematical Olympiad committee, at 785-532-0584 or soibel@math.ksu.edu. Problems presented at previous olympiads are available at http://www.math.ksu.edu/~soibel/
