K-STATE'S CARLA JONES A 2008 DIAMOND HONOREE OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE PERSONNEL ASSOCIATION
MANHATTAN -- Carla Jones, assistant vice president and senior associate dean of student life at Kansas State University, has been recognized by the American College Personnel Association's Educational Leadership Foundation as a 2008 Diamond Honoree.
She will be honored at a ceremony Sunday, March 30, in Atlanta, Ga.
The honor recognizes outstanding and sustained contributions to higher education and to student affairs. The Diamond Honoree program is both a leadership recognition and fundraising activity. Funds raised on behalf of the honorees help with the foundation's scholarship, research, leadership and professional development programs. Jones is one of 15 individuals selected for the honor this year.
Jones has served in several leadership positions with American College Personnel Association. She has been director of the Core Council for professional issues; director of the association's 16 commissions; and a member of its Executive Council from 2002-2004. She has served on the association's Administrative Leadership, Judicial Affairs and Legal Services, and Housing and Residential Life commissions. In addition, she was the author of the association's senior student affairs practitioners program, leading efforts to nominate and induct its first class.
Jones joined K-State as assistant dean of student life in 1994. She was promoted to associate dean of student life and director of the K-State office of student life in March 1996. She served as K-State interim associate provost for diversity and dual career development from September 2001 to June 2002, when she was promoted to senior associate dean of student life.
She was named a K-State assistant vice president for institutional advancement in 2005.
At K-State, Jones teaches in the College of Education and works directly with students experiencing academic problems, personal crises, career choices and family or relationship problems. Her expertise includes leadership, skill development and minority student leadership.
She has been an instructor of the K-State Freshman Leadership Seminar and an adviser to Silver Key, the sophomore honorary, and to the Multicultural Student Honor Society. Jones also has been recognized by K-State's chapter of Mortar Board, the senior honorary, as an outstanding adviser and as an honorary member.
Jones came to K-State from East Carolina University, where she served as director of residence life from 1989-94. She was assistant director of housing for residence life at the University of Florida, Gainesville, from 1980-89. She also has experience at the University of Texas at Austin.
Jones earned her doctorate in student personnel in higher education from the University of Florida; a master's in higher education from Florida State University; and a bachelor's in English education from Jacksonville (Fla.) University.
