ARCHITECT MARTIN DESPANG TO SPEAK AT K-STATE

MANHATTAN -- Noted architect and educator Martin Despang will present a guest lecture for the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design.

Despang's lecture, "Prosarchitecture," will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the K-State Student Union's Little Theater. The lecture, supported by the K-State student fine arts fee, is free and open to the public.

Despang is an architect and educator with an international reputation. He currently is a professor in tectonics and design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A graduate of the University of Hannover in Germany, he maintains a practice in Germany, Despang Architekten. Building types designed by his firm include single and multifamily housing, kindergartens and other schools, recreational facilities, transit stations, retail shops, and commercial and administrative offices.

The firm has been widely recognized and published. It has been named among the top 100 creative German architectural firms and has been honored with numerous awards, including the Emerging Architecture Award by the Architectural Review for the EXPO 2000 train station project. The firm also earned a 2004 Lower Saxony States Award for its innovative approach in finding a new building type for a supermarket.

Work by Despang Architekten has been widely published in the U.S., Asia and Europe, including the prestigious Birkhauser series of construction manuals and its associated journal, Detail, which is a resource for architects interested in technical sophistication and design excellence.

Design professionals can submit attendance to the lecture for continuing education credit by contacting Diane Potts at 785-532-1090 or potts@k-state.edu.
