EDUCATORS INVITED TO K-STATE'S 19TH ANNUAL MUSIC SYMPOSIUM, JUNE
18-21
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's 19th annual Music Symposium will
be June 18-21 in Manhattan.
The
symposium is open to all music educators, including instrumental
teachers, vocal/choral teachers, private studio teachers, general
music teachers at all levels of education and elementary teachers
using music in their curricula.
This
year's symposium theme is "Continuing the Journey." Keynote
speaker Marilyn Ward will give a presentation on defining beauty
in music and its application to such fields as architecture, plastic
surgery and science. Ward's other research interests include studies
on American folk music as it is taught in schools.
Additional
symposium events include displays, reading sessions, performances,
social time and an array of speakers from the national venue. Other
features of the symposium include booths with music education materials
from J. W. Pepper-Wingert Jones, Music Supply Closet and Global
Connection.
K-State
faculty members involved in this year's symposium include: Fred
Burrack, assistant professor of music; Jana Fallin, professor of
music; Paul Hunt, professor of music; Reginald Pittman, associate
professor of music; and Frank Tracz, professor of music.
Registration
for the symposium is $165 if payment and registration form are postmarked
by June 1; the fee is $175 if postmarked after. The registration
fee includes morning and afternoon refreshments, one lunch, an evening
picnic dinner, an evening banquet and all symposium materials. For

asking for noncredit programs registration. To register by fax,
send a completed registration form to 785-532-2422. To register
by mail, send a completed registration form to the Division of Continuing
Education registration office, 141 College Court Building, Manhattan,
KS 66506.
The
symposium can be taken for up to three graduate credit hours through
the K-State department of music. Those intending to take the symposium
for credit should register at http://www.dce.k-state.edu and click
on "course offerings." Enter course number MUSIC 811 or
reference number 90394 in the appropriate field.
