K-STATE'S
SAFARI-THEMED OPEN HOUSE TO FEATURE MARCHING COBRAS, RACING COCKROACHES,
WILD GAMES AND EXHIBITS SHOWING WHAT K-STATE HAS TO OFFER
MANHATTAN
-- Everyone is invited on a safari adventure to see Wildcats
in their native habitat -- the Kansas State University campus.
Come
explore K-State at the safari-themed All-University Open House,
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the campuses in Manhattan
and Salina. Open house gives visitors a chance to see what life
at K-State is really like. Through games, exhibits, entertainment,
interactive displays and tours, see what a K-State education can
do for you.
Some
"wild" things you can expect to see on the safari:
*
Marching Cobras. The renowned Kansas City drill team gives its second
open house performance at noon on the Bosco Plaza outside the K-State
Student Union.
*
Racing cockroaches. Staff at K-State's Insect Zoo will show off
some of the zoo's creepy, crawly inhabitants.
*
Fighting robots. See competition robots in action at the engineering
complex.
*
Tightrope-walking rats. Rodents perform feats they've learned from
K-State psychology students, Union.
*
"Naked" computers. At K-State at Salina, students in the
department of technology and aviation will demonstrate the inner
workings of computers using a game of tic-tac-toe.
K-State's
All-University Open House can answer questions about admissions,
student financial assistance, on-campus or Greek living, and campus
life, including K-State's nearly 400 student organizations. Open
house will have information specifically for transfer students,
students from military families, minority students and out-of-state
students.
Each
K-State college will have demonstrations, games and food, as well
as faculty and students on hand to answer questions about the more
than 250 majors offered at the university. To help prospective students
unsure about a major, a free online career assessment will be given
each hour beginning at 10 a.m. in 14 Holton Hall.
Walking
tours of campus, given each half hour, will include a 1 p.m. tour
in both English and Spanish. Shuttle buses run every 15 minutes
from the Union to sites across campus, including the Peters Recreation
Complex, residence halls and Hale Library, the centerpiece of K-State's
Manhattan campus.
For
K-State's youngest visitors, open house includes children's activities
like carnival games outside Calvin Hall and the stuffed animal clinic
at the small animal lobby of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital
in Mosier Hall.
Entertainment
for people of all ages includes a variety show and international
parade at Bosco Plaza, as well as a presentation Friday, April 13,
by two of the stars of the Discovery Channel's "MythBusters"
program. The show begins at 7 p.m. in McCain Auditorium. Tickets
are $6 and can be purchased by calling 785-532-6428.
There's
plenty to eat at K-State's All-University Open House, from goodies
made by students in bakery science and management, to salads you
make yourself with help from students in K-State's dietetics program.
