K-STATE LIBRARIES TO CELEBRATE FEDERAL DEPOSITORY CENTENNIAL: Kansas State University's K-State Libraries will recognize the 100th anniversary of participation in the Federal Depository Library Program. A centennial celebration program will be 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the Government Documents area at K-State's Hale Library.

NEXT K-STATE LARSON LECTURE SPEAKER TO PRESENT 'GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE: AN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE': David Hartnett will present "Global Environmental Change: An African Perspective" Wednesday, April 11, as part of Kansas State University's Vernon Larson International Luncheon-Lecture Series.

RECIPIENT OF RICHEST PRIZE IN THE HUMANITIES TO SPEAK AT K-STATE: Native Kansan Eric Sundquist, Foundation Professor of Literature at the University of California at Los Angeles and a 2006 recipient of an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Distinguished Service Award, will make a presentation at Kansas State University.

K-STATE'S MATH MODELING TEAM DESIGNATED MERITORIOUS: A team of Kansas State University students was designated Meritorious in the world in the 2007 Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The contest is an annual online competition for teams of undergraduates to use mathematical modeling to solve real world problems.

K-STATE DISTANCE EDUCATION ENROLLMENT CURRENTLY UNDER WAY FOR SUMMER 2007: The Division of Education at Kansas State University is currently enrolling students for distance education courses offered during summer 2007.

K-STATE STUDENTS RECEIVE GRANTS FOR GRADUATE STUDY, HONORABLE MENTIONS FROM NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION: Kansas State University students have earned two Graduate Research Fellowship Awards and three honorable mentions from the National Science Foundation.

K-STATE FOOTBALL TICKETS, GOLF EXCURSIONS, $1,500 VACATION PACKAGE TO MEXICO ON THE AUCTION BLOCK APRIL 13 AT K-STATE TRAVEL AND DINING AUCTION: Gourmet cheesecake, vintage wine, golf excursions and a vacation package to Mexico will be among items up for bid at the Kansas State University Travel and Dining Auction. The auction will be 7-10 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the K-State Alumni Center, and will include a live jazz band, a wine sampling, coffee, appetizers and desserts.

K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION SPRING 2007 DISTINGUISHED LECTURER NEAL PATTERSON OF CERNER TO SPEAK APRIL 10: Neal Patterson, chairman of the board, chief executive officer and co-founder of Cerner Corp., will be the spring 2007 speaker for the College of Business Administration's Distinguished Lecture Series at Kansas State University.

K-STATE AT SALINA GROUP HAS BEGINNER'S LUCK AT REGIONAL BUSINESS COMPETITION: Members of Kansas State University at Salina's fledgling chapter of Business Professionals of America went to their first regional competition recently and brought home top honors.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THE FOCUS OF NEXT CHESTER E. PETERS LECTURE IN STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AT K-STATE: Susan Komives will speak about student leadership development at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the K-State Student Union's Main Ballroom. HOXIE'S JENNA KENNEDY IS K-STATE'S 30TH TRUMAN SCHOLAR: A Kansas State University student interested in a career in international public health is K-State's 30th Harry S. Truman Scholarship winner. Jenna Kennedy, Hoxie, senior in microbiology, natural resources and environmental science, and premedicine, has been selected to receive the national scholarship, which provides up to $30,000 for college students preparing for a career in public service.

K-STATE'S FOURTH DIVERSITY SUMMIT APRIL 6: Kansas State University's fourth Diversity Summit will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. The theme of the summit is "A Time for Institutional Accountability, Strategic Planning and Re-Engagement."

K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART OFFERING ART WORKSHOP IN CONJUNCTION WITH ALL-UNIVERSITY OPEN HOUSE EVENTS APRIL 14: The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University is taking part in K-State's All-University Open House activities Saturday, April 14. THREE K-STATE STUDENTS WIN 2007 GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH UP TO $15,000: Kansas State University students Mike Reppert, Manhattan, Emily Voigt, McPherson, and Jennifer Buseman, Overland Park, are among 317 students nationally to win 2007 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships. They were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,110 mathematics, science and engineering students nominated by the faculties of their colleges and universities. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 annually for a student's final one or two years of undergraduate studies.

K-STATE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT HONORED WITH NATIONAL STUDENT AWARD: Renee Ecklund, a Kansas State University graduate student in electrical engineering, has been named an honorable mention for the Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Award from Eta Kappa Nu, an electrical and computer engineering honor society.

Students are invited to attend based on their submitted manuscript, personal statement and letters of recommendation.

K-STATE'S ADVANCED MANUFACTURING INSTITUTE RECOGNIZED FOR WORK IN NATIONAL TRADE PUBLICATION: Kansas State University's Advanced Manufacturing Institute was recently recognized in OEM Off-Highway magazine, which provides information to help product development teams design and produce better off-highway vehicles and component systems.

PROMINENT ENVIRONMENTAL SOIL SCIENTIST TO SPEAK AT K-STATE: Environmental soil scientist Andrew Sharpley will be at Kansas State University to present a seminar, "Agricultural Phosphorus and the Environment: Challenges to Science, Practice and Policy," at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in Throckmorton Hall Room 1018.

NEW YORK TIMES COLUMNIST, PRINCETON ECONOMIST TO PRESENT LECTURE AT K-STATE ON AMERICAN HEALTH CARE: Princeton University economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman will speak at Kansas State University Thursday, March 15. He will present "The Crisis in American Health Care" at 7:30 p.m. in Forum Hall, K-State Student Union. The lecture is being presented by K-State's department of economics.

K-STATE STUDENTS PRESENT RESEARCH AT 12TH ANNUAL GRADUATE RESEARCH FORUM: Several Kansas State University students received honors for their research projects at the 12th annual Graduate Research Forum, March 2, in the K-State Student Union. ACCIDENT OCCURS AT JARDINE CONSTRUCTION SITE: A construction worker died Wednesday after falling from a forklift box at the Jardine Apartment Complex construction site at Kansas State University. A second worker also fell, according to Troy Lane, assistant director of K-State police.

K-STATE PROFESSOR'S WEB VIDEO TO PREMIERE AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE: The final version of Michael Wesch's video "Web 2.0...The Machine is Us/ing Us," will premiere at the Technology Entertainment and Design Conference today in Monterey, Calif.

FIRST DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK AT K-STATE DESIGNED TO INCREASE CONTACT BETWEEN DISABLED K-STATERS AND OTHERS IN THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY: A group of advocates for individuals with disabilities at Kansas State University has organized the university's first "K-State for All," a campuswide disability awareness week March 25-31.

K-STATE'S PANHELLENIC AND INTERFRATERNITY COUNCILS EARN HONORS: Kansas State University's Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils, the governing boards of the Greek community at the university, earned honors at the Mid-America Greek Council Association's annual conference and awards banquet, Feb. 22-25, in Chicago.

K-STATE LECTURE BY GERMAN ARCHITECT, JOURNALIST TO EXPLORE HOW ARCHITECTURE OF REUNIFIED BERLIN EXPRESSES GERMAN NATIONAL IDENTITY: Ulf Meyer will present "Architecture and Urban Design in Berlin Since the Fall of the Wall" at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the Little Theatre at the K-State Student Union. The free lecture, which is open to the public, will explore how the architecture of the reunified Berlin expresses German national identity.

BRIANA NELSON GOFF RECOGNIZED AS OUTSTANDING ALUM OF TEXAS TECH: Briana S. Nelson Goff was honored earlier this week by Texas Tech University's College of Human Sciences with an alumni award as a "New Achiever."

K-STATE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN PRODUCTION OF 'YOU BELONG TO US': Two Kansas State University graduate students in drama therapy have joined with the Flint Hills Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays to present the second part of the Family Ties Project with the premiere of "You Belong to Us" March 9-11.

K-STATE AGRONOMY ACADEMIC COORDINATOR ELECTED PRESIDENT OF STATE ASSOCIATION: Dana J. Minihan, assistant academic coordinator in the department of agronomy at Kansas State University, was recently elected president of the Kansas Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture.

K-STATE PROFESSOR NAMED FELLOW OF PHYTOPATHOLOGICAL SOCIETY: A Kansas State University professor has been named a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society. Barbara Valent, university distinguished professor of plant pathology, received the award for research work she has done with rice blast disease.

KANSAS CITY-AREA IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY MIRA MDIVANI TO DISCUSS IMMIGRATION LAW AT DOROTHY THOMPSON LECTURE MARCH 12 AT K-STATE: Immigration attorney Mira Mdivani will present "Brown is the New Black and Green Cards are Pink: Immigration Law for Normal People" as part of Kansas State University's Dorothy L. Thompson Lecture Series on Civil Rights.

ARGENTINEAN ARCHITECT, PROFESSOR SHARING HIS VIEWS ON URBANISM AT K-STATE'S EKDAHL MEMORIAL LECTURE: Distinguished Argentinean architect and educator Miguel Angel Roca will give the spring 2007 Oscar Ekdahl Memorial Lecture of Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design.

$100,000 CONTRIBUTION FROM PFIZER ANIMAL HEALTH SUPPORTS FOCUS ON TRAINING LARGE ANIMAL VETERINARIANS AT K-STATE: High student demand and a significant commitment to educating large-animal practitioners has led to the creation of a new, six-week intensive advanced beef production medicine course at Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.

K-STATE STUDENT COMPETES IN NATIONAL DISCUSSION MEET: A Kansas State University student recently was selected as one of four finalists in the discussion meet of the American Farm Bureau Federation's Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Conference.

K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART CLOSING TEMPORARILY WHILE IMPROVEMENTS MADE TO ENTRYWAY; CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS CONTINUING AS SCHEDULED: The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University will be closed March 12 to April 3 while minor changes are made to the museum's entryway. During that time, early childhood workshops will continue as scheduled.
