STUDENTS
FROM THROUGHOUT NORTHEAST KANSAS PARTICIPATING IN HISTORY COMPETITION
MARCH 10 AT K-STATE
MANHATTAN
-- Students from throughout northeast Kansas will bring history
to life at Kansas State University when K-State and its department
of history play host to the Kansas District 4 National History Day
event Saturday, March 10.
The
National History Day competition is a yearlong educational program
encouraging students to study history and exercise critical thinking
skills. Students in grades six-12 research original materials and
express what they have learned through creative and original dramatic
performances, media presentations, research papers or 3-D exhibits.
The theme for this year's projects is "Triumph and Tragedy
in History."
At
K-State, students will have the opportunity to share their projects
and interact with K-State history faculty. Professional historians
will judge the entries on historical accuracy, depth of research,
clarity of presentation and relevance to this year's theme. First-
and second-place winners at the District 4 competition at K-State
advance to the Kansas History Day competition in May for a chance
to go to the national competition.
Students
participating in the District 4 competition at K-State are from
Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Geary, Marshall,
Ottawa, Pottawatomie, Republic, Riley
and Washington counties.
For
more information on National History Day, call Brent Maner, K-State
assistant professor of history, at 785-532-0381 or e-mail maner@k-state.edu.
