K-STATE'S
PANHELLENIC AND INTERFRATERNITY COUNCILS EARN HONORS
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils,
the governing boards of the Greek community at the university, earned
honors at the Mid-America Greek Council Association's annual conference
and awards banquet, Feb. 22-25, in Chicago.
The
K-State Panhellenic Council received the Sutherland Award, which
recognizes outstanding actions and policies of an ideal sorority
community. The council was rated outstanding in the categories of
academic achievement, council management, philanthropy and community
service, leadership and educational development, membership recruitment,
public relations, risk reduction and management, and self governance
and judicial affairs.
K-State's
Interfraternity Council received second place in the Jellison Award
competition. The award recognizes outstanding actions and policies
of an ideal fraternity community. K-State was rated outstanding
in academic achievement, philanthropy and community service, public
relations, risk reduction and management, and self-governance and
judicial affairs.
"K-State's
recognition is significant because our two Greek governing councils
have won the Sutherland or Jellison awards 21 times in the last
28 years, making K-State's Greek community one of the best in the
nation," said Scott Jones, director of Greek affairs at K-State.
This
year's conference included 126 councils from 27 states, including
councils from the University of Kansas, Washburn University, Oklahoma
State University, Purdue, University of North Carolina and the University
of Texas.
Greek
councils compete for the Sutherland and Jellison awards by submitting
individual notebooks in each judging category. If a council is rated
outstanding in at least five of the categories, the council is nominated
for the Sutherland or Jellison awards. The awards are based on the
points earned in the judging process.
The
Mid-America Greek Council Association works to stimulate the growth
and development of college fraternity and sorority councils by promoting
leadership and educational experiences for Greek student leaders
at colleges and universities.
