K-STATE STUDENTS PRESENT RESEARCH AT 12TH ANNUAL GRADUATE RESEARCH FORUM

MANHATTAN -- Several Kansas State University students received honors for their research projects at the 12th annual Graduate Research Forum, March 2, in the K-State Student Union.

The forum is sponsored by the K-State Graduate School and the Graduate School Council. The forum also included presentations by K-State undergraduate researchers, said Carol Shanklin, associate dean of the Graduate School.

At the forum, students gave 23 oral presentations and displayed 26 posters explaining their research projects. Forum presentations were categorized as science or social science and education. Serving as judges were K-State faculty members.

Ten research posters were selected to be displayed at the annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit at the Kansas Legislature in Topeka, Thursday, March 15. The posters will be in the Statehouse rotunda, and the graduate students will be available to answer questions.

K-State students receiving honors include:

Aaron Pung, senior in physics, Andover, second place, undergraduate presenters; Brandon Solt, graduate student in business administration, third place, social science and education, and Lance Thurlow, graduate student in microbiology, second place, science II, both of Hays.

From Manhattan: Caroline Delandre, graduate student in biology, third place, science II; Fariba Emamgholizadeh, graduate student in food science, second place, posters; Gunjan Gakhar, graduate student in pathobiology, first place, science II; Azadeh Lalehzari, graduate student in chemistry, first place, science I; Travis Linnemann, graduate student in sociology, first place, social science and education; Sara Mueting, senior in biology, first place, undergraduate presenters; Prem Parajuli, graduate student in biological and agricultural engineering, third place, science I; Sandeep Rana, graduate student in chemistry, first place, posters; Indike Ratnayake, graduate student in civil engineering, third place, posters; and Shilpa Vaze, graduate student in electrical engineering, second place, science I.
