K-STATE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN RECOGNIZES STUDENT EXCELLENCE

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design has recognized several students for excellence during the 2009-2010 academic year. The students were honored at the college's commencement ceremony May 15.

Students recognized and their honors include:

Andrew Schaap, May 2010 Master of Landscape Architecture graduate, Abilene, the Master of Landscape Architecture Quinlan Award for academic advancement in the study of landscape architecture.

Paul Folger, May 2010 Master of Architecture graduate, Derby, the American Institute of Architects Henry Adams Medal for having the highest grade point average in architecture.

Joshua Perez, May 2010 Master of Architecture graduate, Manhattan, the American Institute of Architects Henry Adams Certificate of Excellence for having the second highest grade point average in architecture, and the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for leadership, service and promise of professional merit.

Michael Weber, May 2010 Master of Landscape Architecture graduate, Manhattan, the Master of Landscape Architecture Outstanding Graduate Award for academic performance and contributions to the college, landscape architecture program and his peers; and the American Society of Landscape Architects Competition Certificate of Merit for the highest level of academic scholarship and accomplishments in skills related to the art and technology of landscape architecture.

Jane Winslow, a graduate of the postbaccalaureate Master of Landscape Architecture program, Manhattan, the American Society of Landscape Architects Competition Certificate of Merit for the highest level of academic scholarship and accomplishments in skills related to the art and technology of landscape architecture.

Shannon Williams, master's student in planning, Olathe, the Leland R. Edmonds Outstanding Research Award proposal for her master's report or thesis.

Matthew Johnson, master's student in interior architecture and product design, Shawnee, the James Dubois Outstanding Graduating Student Award for academic performance and contributions to the department interior architecture and product design program and peers, and the Student Leadership Award for outstanding contributions performed for the betterment of the department of interior architecture and product design.

Amanda White, May 2010 Master of Landscape Architecture graduate, Topeka, the Master of Landscape Architecture Quinlan Award for academic advancement in the study of landscape architecture.

Philip Zevenbergen, May 2010 Master of Regional and Community Planning, Arvada, Colo., the American Institute of Certified Planners Outstanding Student Award in regional and community planning for academic performance, contribution of leadership, participation in planning activities and professional promise.

Elise Hubbard, master's student in regional and community planning, Dexter, Mo., the Landscape Architecture Foundation Olmsted Scholar for exceptional leadership potential in advancing sustainable planning and design and fostering human and societal benefits; and the American Society of Landscape Architects Competition Certificate of Honor for the highest level of academic scholarship and accomplishments in skills related to the art and technology of landscape architecture.

Jared Sang, May 2010 Master of Architecture graduate, House Springs, Mo., the American Institute of Architects Kansas Student Honor Award for an outstanding academic record and active participation in the local student chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Samantha Lang, May 2010 Master of Interior Architecture and Product Design graduate, Manchester, Mo., Outstanding Product Design Award for the best project and overall performance in product design.

Andrea Nelson, May 2010 Master of Interior Architecture and Product Design graduate, Smithville, Mo., Outstanding Furniture Design Award for the best project and overall performance in furniture design.

Christie Murman, May 2010 Master of Landscape Architecture graduate, Glenvil, Neb., Outstanding Graduate Research Award for significance, quality and scope of research efforts; the Dr. Robert P. Ealy Award for academic excellence based upon scholarly endeavors; and the American Society of Landscape Architects Competition Certificate of Honor for the highest level of academic scholarship and accomplishments in skills related to the art and technology of landscape architecture.

Allison Seyler, May 2010 Master of Interior Architecture and Product Design graduate, Omaha, Neb., the Jack C. Durgan Interior Architecture Award as the outstanding overall designer who best demonstrates understanding of the synthesis of specializations within the design curriculum by her standard of excellence and innovation in design solutions.

Sara Ege, May 2010 Master of Interior Architecture and Product Design graduate, Kingwood, Texas, the Eugene McGraw Scholastic Award for having the highest grade point average in the department of interior architecture and product design;

Jose Abraham, May 2010 Master of Science graduate in architecture, India, the John Helm Award as the Master of Science in Architecture degree recipient who demonstrated outstanding performance in course work, leadership and service, and has completed an outstanding thesis or final project.
