K-STATE TO REOPEN FRIDAY; CLASSES IN HEAVILY DAMAGED BUILDINGS MOVED TEMPORARILY TO ALTERNATE LOCATIONS; ORIENTATION AND ENROLLMENT MOVES BACK TO UNION
MANHATTAN -- About 30 classes being taught this summer at Kansas State University will be moved to temporary locations for Friday's sessions.
Orientation and enrollment, which were moved to Bramlage Coliseum Thursday, return to their normal location Friday in the K-State Student Union.
Provost and Senior Vice President M. Duane Nellis said K-State staff members are busy finding alternate classroom locations so the summer term will not be disrupted more than necessary in the aftermath of Wednesday's tornado.
Some classes normally held in Durland, Rathbone or Weber halls will be moved to other locations around campus. For a complete listing of classes and their alternate locations click here.
"Some classrooms in the affected buildings may be functional by Monday," Nellis said.
Nellis said he spoke with Ed Heptig, director of facilities maintenance, who has had crews working since shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday to reclaim K-State buildings damaged by the storm.
"I am asking faculty and administrators to be accommodating of students impacted by the storms in this difficult time," Nellis said. "We are working with Loleta Sump, coordinator of classroom scheduling, on temporary assignments for classes scheduled for Friday. Once we have these, assignments we will post them on the K-State Web site. All other classes will occur Friday as scheduled. We will update the campus community Friday on the status for classroom use for next week."
