K-STATE CANCELS CLASSES TODAY; ORIENTATION TO TAKE PLACE AT BRAMLAGE
COLISEUM

MANHATTAN -- Classes scheduled for today, Thursday, June 12, at Kansas State University are cancelled.

Bob Krause, vice president for institutional advancement, said, "Freshman orientation and enrollment has been moved from the K-State Student Union to Bramlage Coliseum. The time remains the same, 8:30 a.m.

"Many of the students and parents who are attending orientation and enrollment are from out of town, so we felt it important to continue that program as scheduled," Krause said.

Many campus buildings are without power. Debris from the storm litters the campus.

"Facilities employees need today to clear the campus of downed tree branches, downed wires, and other hazards," Krause said.

All facilities employees need to report to work as scheduled. Employees who are involved with orientation and enrollment should report to Bramlage. Those who are involved with housing, feeding and safety of students and campus buildings should report to work if possible. Other employees may stay home. Individuals with questions about whether they should report to work are encouraged to contact their supervisors.

Among buildings sustaining damage were Cardwell Hall, Ward Hall, Burt Hall and the engineering complex. The Wind Erosion Laboratory, which had been located near Weber Hall, was destroyed. Damage also was reported in several parking lots. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon house sustained extensive damage. All residents are safe.

Pat Bosco, associate vice president of institutional advancement and dean of student life, said campers staying in the residence halls are fine and the residence halls sustained no damage.
