KOELLIKER NAMED INTERIM DEPARTMENT HEAD
MANHATTAN -- James Koelliker was named interim head of the department of civil engineering at Kansas State University, effective June 1.
Koelliker joined the faculty in the K-State College of Engineering as an assistant professor of agricultural engineering in 1973, became an associate professor of civil engineering in 1978 and a full professor of civil engineering in 1981.
From 1997 to 2005, he was professor and head of biological and agricultural engineering at K-State. He has served as a professor in that department from 2005 to the present. He spent one year, 1977, as an associate professor of agricultural engineering at Oregon State University.
Koelliker holds a B.S. in agricultural engineering from K-State, an M.S. in water resources from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering from Iowa State. His areas of interest are watershed simulation modeling, particularly on effects of agriculture on water supply and water quality, and environmental engineering.
He is a registered professional engineer, a Fellow in the American Society of Biological and Agricultural Engineers, and a founding member of the faculty committee that established the natural resources and environmental sciences secondary major at K-State. He has been a contributing scientist on the National Science Foundation's long-term ecological research project at Konza Prairie Biological Station for the past 25 years.
“We are confident the department will maintain its strong reputation and continue to move forward under Professor Koelliker’s leadership,” said Richard Gallagher, interim dean of the College of Engineering. “He brings to the position an outstanding set of academic and leadership qualities as well as department head experience.”
Koelliker will replace current department head, Lakshmi Reddi, who has accepted the Gerry and Ruth Hartman Endowed Professorship and civil engineering department chair at the University of Central Florida, Orlando.
