K-STATE FOOTBALL TICKET DONATION PROGRAM IN PLACE FOR FORT RILEY DAY
MANHATTAN -- Supporters of Kansas State University football have the opportunity to increase the Wildcat fan base by donating tickets to soldiers at Fort Riley.
Tickets for donation to the Sept. 6 game against Montana State cost $20 each, discounted from $35. The program, which goes into effect July 15, is part of K-State's commemoration of Fort Riley Day and is designed to complement the annual tailgate party sponsored by Briggs Auto. Other festivities surrounding the game also will pay tribute to soldiers' service.
"This is a great opportunity for K-Staters to show their appreciation for all that our soldiers and their families have undertaken," said Art DeGroat, director of military affairs at K-State. "Fort Riley is absolutely Wildcat territory, and this will give the troops a chance to take some time away from their rigorous training and just enjoy the game."
The initiative was launched by Bob Krause, vice president for institutional advancement and director of athletics at K-State, and DeGroat, who is president of the Fort Riley-Central Kansas Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army.
DeGroat expects at least 1,000 soldiers and family members to attend the Sept. 6 game-day events. "We could see the largest attendance ever from our Fort Riley community," he said.
Tickets for donation can be purchased through the K-State athletics department at 785-532-7606 or 800-221-CATS. Donors also can pay by checks made out to the Association of the U.S. Army and mailed to the Manhattan Military Relations Committee, attention Bevin Landrum, 501 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502. Checks must be received by Friday, Aug. 29.
