K-STATE AT SALINA PROFESSOR INVITED TO OXFORD UNIVERSITY ROUND TABLE TO DISCUSS AMERICAN INDIANS AND THEIR ROLE IN LITERATURE
SALINA -- Leslie Hannah, an assistant professor of arts, sciences and business at Kansas State University at Salina, will take part in a prestigious international discussion on American Indians and their role in literature.
Hannah was invited to be a part of an Oxford University Round Table session on religion. The session, "Allusions to God in the Literature and Poetry of Britain and America since 1750: Informing Global Religious Conflicts," will be July 22-27 at Oxford's Harris Manchester College in England.
Hannah primarily teaches English and American Indian Studies at K-State at Salina.
"Some of the top minds in literature have participated in these Oxford Round Tables, so I guess that puts me in some elite company," he said.
The Oxford Round Tables help promote human advancement and understanding through the improvement of education. They are a forum for the study of current issues facing state and national systems of education, and each session is made up of a small select group of leaders from both the public and private sectors of several countries.
Hannah, who plans to present "The Soul of the Indian: American Indian Theology in Concert and Conflict with Christianity," said the invitation to participate is a tremendous opportunity.
"Networking with some of the greatest literary minds of the contemporary world will be intellectually stimulating," he said. "I hope to open their minds to the vast -- and vastly understudied -- field of American Indian literature and culture."
