TWO NEW DEPARTMENT HEADS FOR K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN

MANHATTAN -- The College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University has two new department heads.

Lorraine Cutler is now head of the department of interior architecture and product design. Peter Magyar will become head of the department of architecture effective Aug. 13.

After 20 years practicing corporate commercial interior design, Cutler joined the faculty of the interior design program at Arizona State University in 1991. She served as chair of the program from 2005-07. Cutler received a master's degree in human relations and organizational behavior from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor's in environmental design from Arizona State.

Magyar, a registered chief architect in Europe, comes to K-State from Florida Atlantic University in Fort Lauderdale, where he was the founding director of the School of Architecture. He also has served as the head of the department of architecture at Pennsylvania State University. He is president of his consulting firm, Spaceprint Inc. Magyar has a doctorate in architecture and a master's in architecture and urban design from the University of Budapest, Hungary.

"Lorri and Peter bring a wealth and diversity of teaching, research and practice experience to our faculty and students," said Dennis Law, dean of K-State's College of Architecture, Planning and Design. "I am very excited and pleased to have them become part of our college’s administrative team."

Cutler replaces Steve Murphy, the longtime head of the department of interior architecture and product design who retired at the end of the 2006-2007 academic year. Magyar replaces David Sachs, who is returning to full-time teaching in architecture.
