K-STATE'S MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO PRESENT 'GISELLE'

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's McCain Performance Series will kick off 2008 with a taste of Russia.

The ballet "Giselle," performed by Russia's St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre, will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in McCain Auditorium.

Innocent love and betrayal, madness and the supernatural -- "Giselle" is the ultimate romantic ballet. It is the haunting legend of a young peasant girl, Giselle, who is charmed by the handsome Count Albrecht. When she discovers that Albrecht has deceived her, the heartbroken Giselle is driven to madness and death, but even that offers her no peace.

Individual tickets cost $20 to $40 and may be ordered by calling the McCain box office at 785-532-6428 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Tickets also may be purchased online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain

A preperformance lecture with David Ollington will be offered an hour before the performance. Ollington, an assistant professor of speech communication, theater and dance at K-State, will discuss the performing arts, including his experiences as a model, performer and choreographer.

The performance and preperformance lecture are sponsored by the K-State fine arts fee and the Friends of McCain.
