K-STATE
STUDENT GOVERNING ASSOCIATION TO SHOW APPRECIATION TO STUDENTS
MANHATTAN
-- Members of the Student Governing Association at Kansas State
University will recognize the people they serve -- the students
-- with a week of appreciation and information Monday, Jan.
29, through Friday, Feb. 2.
The
purpose of the "SGA Hears You" campaign is to increase
the visibility of the Student Governing Association on campus, let
students know how to stay informed about Student Governing Association
happenings and remind students how to file for upcoming elections,
said Molly Hamm, junior in education-English, Shawnee, and vice
chair of the Student Governing Association's University Relations
Committee.
"Many
students have questions about issues on campus but they do not know
who to contact," Hamm said. "We are making a concentrated
effort during this week to be available to answer questions and
get feedback from students about what they want to see done. SGA
bases its decisions on what is best for the student body, so the
goal of this week is to let students know we are always open and
willing to listen to their concerns."
Activities
will include a booth on the first floor of the K-State Student Union
where students can talk to senators and other Student Governing
Association members, voice opinions and receive information about
upcoming elections. The booth will be available from 9:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Jan. 29, Wednesday, Jan. 31, and Friday, Feb. 2. On Tuesday,
Jan. 30, and Thursday, Feb. 1, the booth will be open from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. Each day a different free giveaway, including apparel
from the Union Bookstore and a cup and coupon for a free drink refill,
will be available while supplies last.
On
Wednesday, Jan. 31, a panel of K-State leaders will discuss important
issues affecting students from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Union
Courtyard.
Hamm
also said that students are always welcome to attend and/or speak
at weekly Student Governing Association meetings, which are at 7
p.m. Thursdays in the Union's Big 12 Room. Meeting minutes and copies
of bills and resolutions are available on the Student Governing
Association's Web site: http://www.k-state.edu/sga
The
filing deadline for elections is 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the
office of student activities and services at the Union. Students
can pick up forms from the office or find them on the Web at http://www.k-state.edu/sga
"The
Student Governing Association finds this week important because
it allows us to connect with the student body and hear great ideas
from students that we can bring back to our committees. We also
hope to generate excitement and increase participation in the upcoming
elections. Lastly, we simply wanted to make an effort to reach out
to the students and give them gifts in return for their hard work
at K-State," Hamm said.
