NEW
K-STATE PROGRAMMING COMING TO CHANNEL 8; INAUGURAL PROGRAM SERIES
"SHOW K-STATE" WILL FEATURE PERFORMING ARTS ON CAMPUS
MANHATTAN
-- Performing artists like jazz musicians, dancers and others
involved in the arts at Kansas State University will find new audiences
beyond the campus in programming coming to KST8, Cox Cable channel
8, operated by K-State's Kansas Regents Educational Communications
Center.
"Show
K-State" is a half-hour block of programming that initially
will showcase the arts at K-State. "Show K-State Arts"
will be available to Cox Cable subscribers in the Manhattan, Ogden
and Junction City areas on channel 8. The inaugural block of programming
begins at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29. Future "Show K-State"
programming will include such things as research, technology and
other activities at the university.
"We
want people to watch because it's highlighting things at K-State
that people might not know about otherwise," said Traci Taylor,
marketing director for the Educational Communications Center, which
is producing "Show K-State."
Jim
Mock, director of production services at the center and executive
producer for "Show K-State," said the program will air
at various times each day of the week, giving a variety of audiences
the chance to see highlighted activities on campus.
"We
wanted to start with the arts because they don't get as much press
as some of the other things K-State is known for nationally,"
Mock said.
The
initial programming has been taped at the Educational Communications
Center's television studios. By being on "Show K-State,"
Mock said performing faculty and students will have opportunities
to adapt their talents for television or film. For instance, students
will see how choreography or blocking for video or film differs
from dance and dramatic performances created for the stage.
Following
the initial broadcast Jan. 29, repeat airings will be: Tuesdays
at 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.; Wednesdays at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with no
6 p.m. broadcast March 7; Thursdays at 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.; Fridays
at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays at 9 a.m., 3
p.m. and 6 p.m.
